In this episode of Black Mirror, an over protective mother goes out of here way to make sure her daughter is saver than ever. The mother is so worried about her daughters safety that she signs her up to a program called arkangel. It’s a free trial that could monitor her daughter vitals, know where she is at all times, censors out bad content and see what she sees at all times. With this, comes with great consequences. For starters, the daughter doesn’t trust her mother at all. She wants to explore the world and try new things but with the filter mode on its almost impossible to do so. The daughter also gets left out in many conversations because she has no idea what people are talking about since she hasn’t experience it. So there is a lot of tension between the mother and daughter.

In society parents always want to protect their kids in every way shape or form but sometimes they have to let the kid live a little so they can learn from their mistakes. Parents can’t baby their child all the time, especially when they are growing up to the point where they have to make their own decisions. In this episode, it’s shows what can happen when you try to control your child’s life and the effects of it. Parenting is more like pushing your child in the right direction but not fully controlling it. According to internetmatters.org, “these controls were created to assist parents in their ability to restrict certain content viewable by their children”.(interentmatters.org) Notice how it says they “assist” parents and not fully control the situation. Parents still have to contribute but they don’t have to go in it alone. Giving your child opinions on what to do is the best way to let them make their decision because in the future you wont be with them all the time. When people experience problems and they overcome it, they tend to grow stronger than people who just let the problem go away by themselves. Stepping out of your comfort zone is also a great way to build yourself and if your parents are always there, they can stop you from growing. So there is always self growth when it comes talking about yourself and the future.
